“Peace Council must sustain the peace of the nation” – Togbe Asorda Tetrete II

Togbe Asorda Tetrete II of Mafi has called on the National Peace Council to take proactive measures to sustain the peace of the nation before, during and after the elections. He said, the council knows what to do to ensure that peace prevails in this country.

His call comes at a critical time when the nation is gearing towards elections amidst tensions that are characteristic to such crucial exercises.

He made this call over the weekend during his coronation and investiture as a chief of the Aziewa clan of Mafi. The event took place at Mafi Kpokukope in the Central Tongu District of the Volta Region.

Known in private life as Mike Morrison Kekeli Badagbor, the now Togbe Asorda has been a very politically active person in the North Tongu Constituency. Having held management and senior management positions as a media person, Togbe brings on board an in-depth knowledge of managing people, assets and driving development to the area. He has proven himself to be a disciplinarian, a people’s man and a hardworking leader.

In his coronation speech, he reiterated the need for peace in the upcoming elections. “We are one people and must do everything we can to remain as such, even as we belong to different political parties. We are all Ghanaians and even before NDC or NPP, we are Ghanaians. Let us go and vote in peace”.

He said “Even though there cannot be hundred percent peace, [as there would be isolated cases of misunderstanding], I want to call on the National Peace Council to do everything possible to sustain the peace that we have in Ghana”. He bemoaned the denial of justice to those who had to endure some level of injustice during the 2020 elections, saying, “this year we pray that there should be free, fair and no lives lost in the elections”.

Togbe Asorda pledged his willingness to work with whoever wins the elections so as to drive development and progress to the area.

The new chief also called for unity among Mafi chiefs as he said that is the only way they can pull resources together for the progress of Mafi, adding that he will not be used as a tool to further disunite the people.

Togbe Komla Sakpiti V, chief of Bakpa Awadiwoe Kome advised the new chief and his elders to embrace change and put the interest of their community first in all they do. He also pledged his support for Togbe Asorda II, saying “As we have been friends in our private lives, so shall our friendship continue even as leaders of our people. I wish you a successful reign”.

Tracing their origin to the people of Denkyira, the Hlortator retold how their ancestor came to Mafi, helped them in some of their wars and was given lands, title and stool (the Asorda stool) in appreciation for his valor and bravery. He also explained that since his unreturned visit to the ancestral village, his stool has remained vacant hence the need to get an occupant to revive his legacy and take their rightful place among the Aziewa people.

Others installed with Togbe Asorda Tetrete II include Mama Lili II, Togbe Asorda’s stool father and Mama Lili’s stool mother as well. The event was attended by chiefs, their represenatatives and people of the Aziewa clan, Mepe and Adaklu. The paramount queen of Mepe Traditional Area, Mama Asreku II was also present.
