AVENORSEC HOLDS 5TH ANNUAL INTER-HOUSE SPORTS FESTIVAL

Avenor Senior High School, a day school located in Avenorpeme in Akatsi South Municipality of Volta Region, held its fifth annual inter-house sports tournament. The four day event started on 18th June, 2024 and ended on 21st June, 2024.

In her welcome address to officially open the event, the Assistant Headmistress of the school, Madam Celestina Attipoe Amenyeho highlighted the importance of sports stating that it is an avenue for employment into the various security institutions such as the Ghana Armed Forces, The Ghana Police Service, The Ghana Immigration and others. She also said sports makes one famous as well as helps keep individuals healthy. She urged the students
to look beyond the immediate benefits of sports and work to get the full benefit the four day event had to offer. Madam Celestina Attipoe Amenyeho advised students to be disciplined and obey all the instructions their teachers would give during the event. She called on the officiating teachers to exhibit utmost professionalism in all the roles they are assigned to play for a successful event.

The Sports Master, Mr. Alex Amezah in his remark, explained the theme for this year’s activities as Sports as Medicine, that helps eliminate non communicable diseases such as stroke, heart attack and many other diseases. He was of the hope that the four day event would be successful as he had assembled about one hundred and ten student athletes to take part in the events.

After the four day activities, House 4 emerged winners of the football boys category, with Houses 3, 2 and 1 following as second, third and fourth accordingly. Girls football was a little different as House 3 were winners and followed by Houses 2, 4 and 1 respectively.

In the Boys’ Handball competition, House 4 took the first position, seeing House 3 to the second position. Houses 1 and 2 followed each other as third and fourth respectively. But the Girls’ Handball was favourable to House 1 as they emerged winners followed by House 4 as second. Houses 3 and 2 were third and fourth respectively.

House 2 took the fourth position in both Boys’ and Girls’ volleyball. House 4 boys were first while their females chinched to a second position. House 3 boys came second, whiles their girls managed a third. House 1 had thier girls taking the first position spot and their boys coming third.

In her closing remark, the Assistant Headmistress on behalf of the Headmaster of the school expressed her heartfelt appreciation to the students and the teachers especially the various Housemasters and Housemistresses for the good work they had done during the four day event.

She congratulated all the houses for all the various successes in their respective fields of achievements.
