GH¢1.5 million for Jubilee House Independence Day celebration unjustified — Titus Glover

Former Greater Accra Regional Minister, Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus Glover, has questioned the reported GH¢1.5 million spent on this year’s Independence Day celebration held at the Jubilee House.

The former minister said he strongly disagrees with the government’s explanation regarding the cost of the event.

I have a huge problem with it. I totally disagree with the government for saying that GH¢1.5 million was spent on the Independence Day celebration,” he stated.

Hon. Titus Glover, Former Greater Accra Regional Minister

Titus Glover argued that because the ceremony was organized within the presidency rather than at a large public venue, the overall expenditure should have been significantly lower.

According to him, events held at the seat of government typically require fewer logistical arrangements compared to nationwide celebrations hosted in large stadiums or public spaces.

He therefore maintained that the reported amount is difficult to justify given the scale and location of the celebration.

The former minister also noted that under the administration of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Independence Day celebrations were sometimes rotated across different regions of the country.

While he acknowledged that organizing such events outside Accra could involve additional costs due to logistics and infrastructure, he said those celebrations helped promote local culture and allowed more Ghanaians to participate.

Titus Glover stressed that public funds used for national celebrations must be managed responsibly.

He argued that if the Independence Day event is hosted at the presidency, the cost should be far lower than what has been reported, urging authorities to ensure transparency and prudence in public spending.
