The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has directed the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, Kenneth Ashigbey, to stop using the title “Dr” following concerns over the authenticity of his doctoral certificate from the Swiss Management Centre (SMC).
This update was shared on the X page of citinewsroom.com on Friday, October 10, 2025.
“The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has directed the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, Kenneth Ashigbey, to immediately cease using the title “Dr” after declaring his doctoral certificate from the Swiss Management Centre (SMC) invalid,” the post stated.
The update follows inconsistencies found by GTEC between the certificate and the transcript provided by Ken Ashigbey.
The certificate listed the institution as Swiss Management Centre (SMC), while the transcript referred to it as Swiss Management Centre (SMC) University.
Checks on the school’s official website confirmed that the institution is officially recognised only as Swiss Management Centre, matching the certificate.
The Commission also flagged the unusually long duration of the programme, which appeared to span nearly nine years, from February 2010 to December 2019.
Based on these findings, GTEC deemed the DBA certificate invalid.
Subsequently, Ken Ashigbey has been instructed to immediately stop using the title “Dr” in any professional or public context.
