Deti is one of the suburbs of Akatsi, the municipal capital of Akatsi South Municipality in the Volta Region. The community is a few metres away from the Akatsi South Municipal Hospital hence most of the health workers and other public sector workers in the municipality live and commute from Deti to their places of work in the municipality and beyond. It is a community which is developing and one of the challenges facing members of this community is the road network that connects Deti to Dzodze-Akatsi Highway.
One can see deep holes on the road making it very difficult for members to ply the road for their daily activities. In the dry season, the road is so dusty and so muddy and full of water logged on major section of the road in the wet season.
Afenya Media visited the community upon a request by some of the members of the community to have a first-hand experience of how members of the community are suffering with the current state of the road network. The Assembly Member for the area Hon. Richard Caesar Kumator was contacted on phone and he explained that he had severally submitted the problem of the road to the Akatsi South Municipal Assembly and to the Municipal Chief Executive of Akatsi South Municipal Assembly for the past three years, but the road had never been budgeted for making it difficult for him to explain what is preventing the grading of the road. Hon. Caesar further explains that the Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Bernard Ahiafor was made aware of the challenges but nothing concrete has come from the MP as in helping resolve the problem.
The MP on 17th January, 2023 was heard in a radio interview with a local radio station, Revival Fm saying that all the roads in the municipality had been awarded to contractors prior to the exit of the NDC government in 2017 but NPP government halted all the road constructions going on the municipality.
At the time this story was being compiled, no major road construction was going on in the municipality. He further said until his party (NDC) returned to power, there was nothing he could as Member of Parliament for Akatsi South.
AfenyaMedia will follow the development of events in Deti as far as the road is concern and updates the public.
