The Ghana Incentive Based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (GIRSAL) has donated about one hundred (100) desks (pairs of tables and chairs) to the Ohawu Agricultural College in the Ketu North Municipality of the Volta Region.
The donation, as part of activities marking the 5th Anniversary of of the operation of GIRSAL, aims at easing the infrastructure deficit of the college which has over 300 students at the moment.
In a short ceremony on the school premises on Thursday, the Chief Operations Officer of GIRSAL, Mr Samuel Yeboah, reiterated the core mandate of the organization, saying that their aim is to ensure an enabling environment for agricultural lending.
“We are doing a lot to ensure that lending to agricultue and those into agriculture is stimulated and they have access to loans and financing for their projects”, he said.
He said GIRSAL has supported about seventeen (17) institutions through their social intervention programs over the past five years in operation.
Mr Samuel Yeboah added that at GIRSAL, they “believe that human resource management is essential to the modernization of agriculture in Ghana”, outscoring the need for the donation to the school, adding that the school has a proven track record in training mid-level professionals who have contributed enomously to the development of agriculture in Ghana since 1964.
He ended by saying, “With this donation, we believe that some of the challenges you encounter with regards to your learning will be ameliorated to enhance your learning activities on campus” as he called on other institutions to help Ohawu Agric College to continue to develop talents and skills of agricultural professionals.
In his acceptance speech, the Principal of Ohawu Agricultural College, Mr Ernest Abiw, expressed profound gratitude to GIRSAL on behalf of the staff and students.
Mr Abiwu said the donation will help the students to focus more on their training. “Education is the foundation of progress and a conducive learning environment is essential to nurture the bright minds that will lead our agricultural sector. These desks will directly contribute to comfort and productivity of our studenrs, empowering them to focus more on their studies and ultimately on imporoving agriculture in Ghana”, he said.
He also mentioned that GIRSAL’s vision to capitalize agricultural lending and its vision to provide support for agri-businesses align perfecctly with Ohawu Agric College’s goal of training the next generation of agricultural professionals.
The school, in its expression of appreciation presented a plaque to GIRSAL of which Mr Samuel Yeboah took on behalf of the organization.
