The Western Regional Police Command has arrested five suspects in connection with the robbery and murder of a 40-year-old gold buyer, Seth Kobina, at Agona Fie near Agona Nkwanta in the Western Region.
The arrests follow an armed robbery attack on a gold-buying shop on Thursday, August 20, 2026, during which the owner was shot in the chest and later died while being rushed to the hospital.
According to the Police, the incident occurred at about 8:00 p.m. when a group of armed men attacked the gold-buying shop at Agona Fie.
The victim, identified as Seth Kobina, was reportedly shot in the chest during the attack. He was subsequently rushed to the Agona Nkwanta Hospital for medical attention but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The Western Regional Police Command has since commenced investigations into the incident, leading to the identification and arrest of five persons believed to be connected to the robbery and murder.

CCTV FOOTAGE LEADS TO IDENTIFICATION OF SUSPECT
Preliminary investigations, including the review of CCTV footage from the scene, reportedly led investigators to identify 29-year-old Emmanuel Amponsah, alias “Vandam”, as the alleged leader of the gang involved in the robbery.
Police subsequently intensified efforts to locate and apprehend him.
On Friday, August 21, 2026, investigators traced Amponsah to a guest house in Agona Nkwanta, where he was arrested.
A search conducted on him resulted in the recovery of a locally manufactured pistol and two live BB cartridges, according to the Police.
However, following his arrest, Amponsah reportedly took ill and was rushed to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital for medical attention.
The suspect was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
Police investigations nevertheless continued, with officers pursuing other individuals believed to have participated in the robbery.

FOUR OTHER SUSPECTS ARRESTED
Further investigations subsequently led to the arrest of three additional suspects within the Agona Nkwanta area.
They have been identified as Christopher Seyiri, alias “Cross and Die”, aged 47; Bashiru Ibrahim, aged 20; and Thomas Odoom, alias “Wale”, aged 30.
Another suspect, Isaac Quayeson, alias “Last Burial”, was arrested at Denkyira Kwaboso in the Western North Region.
According to the Police, a search conducted at Quayeson’s residence led to the recovery of a locally manufactured pistol, three live BB cartridges, a metal bar and two cutlasses.
The items have reportedly been taken into police custody as part of the evidence being gathered in connection with the investigation.

SUSPECT IDENTIFIES ALLEGED SHOOTER
The Police say further developments in the investigation emerged after suspect Isaac Quayeson allegedly identified Emmanuel Amponsah as the person who shot and killed the deceased during the robbery.
Quayeson also reportedly identified Thomas Odoom as one of the individuals captured in the CCTV footage from the scene.
These identifications, together with other evidence gathered by investigators, are being examined as the Police work to establish the circumstances surrounding the robbery and the roles allegedly played by each of the suspects.
The Police have not, however, indicated that investigations have been concluded.
The five suspects are currently assisting the Police with investigations as officers continue to piece together the events leading to the death of the gold buyer.

POLICE HUNT FOR OTHER ACCOMPLICES
The Western Regional Police Command says efforts are ongoing to arrest other persons suspected to have been involved in the robbery and murder.
Investigators are expected to examine additional evidence, including CCTV footage, statements from witnesses and the items recovered from the suspects, to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
The Police are also working to determine the motive for the attack and the extent of the involvement of each suspect.
The incident has once again raised concerns about the safety of businesses involved in gold trading, particularly in areas where gold-buying activities are prevalent.
Gold buyers and other businesses operating in mining communities can be vulnerable to armed attacks because of the perceived value of gold and cash associated with their operations.
The death of Seth Kobina has therefore heightened concerns among residents and business operators in and around Agona Nkwanta, with calls for increased security measures to protect lives and property.

INVESTIGATION CONTINUES
The Police have assured that investigations will continue until all persons connected to the robbery are identified and arrested.
The five suspects currently in custody are assisting with the investigation, while the Police continue their search for other alleged accomplices.
Authorities are expected to present the suspects before the court once investigations reach the appropriate stage.
The Police have also urged members of the public who may have information relevant to the case to assist investigators as they work to bring the matter to a conclusion.
For now, the circumstances surrounding the robbery and murder remain under investigation, and the allegations against the suspects are yet to be tested before a court of competent jurisdiction.
The Western Regional Police Command has reiterated its commitment to pursuing the case and ensuring that all persons found to have played a role in the robbery and murder are dealt with in accordance with the law.
