Kwasi Kwarteng dismisses claims Kennedy Agyapong plans new political party

The spokesperson for the campaign team of Kennedy Agyapong, Kwasi Kwarteng, has firmly dismissed speculation that the former Assin Central MP intends to break away to form a new political party.

The rumors followed Agyapong’s absence from his party’s thanksgiving service held on Sunday, sparking claims of a possible political realignment.

Speaking on Prime Morning on Monday, February 16, 2026, Kwarteng clarified that both he and Agyapong were out of town at the time of the service, stressing that the absence should not be misconstrued.

I was also out of town, like Ken. Ken himself was out of town. But I am here speaking for the party, and I think that should be enough, he stated.

Kwarteng described the speculation as baseless, arguing that it was unreasonable to infer political motives from attendance at a single event. He noted that several high-profile party figures were also absent from the thanksgiving service.

Among those he mentioned were former President Nana Akufo-Addo and former President John Agyekum Kufuor.

President Akufo-Addo was not there. Is he also going to start his own party? President Kufuor was not there. Is he also going to start his own party?” Kwarteng asked rhetorically.

He further referenced lawyer and former minister Samuel Atta Akyea, who is widely known for his key role in the campaign of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Kwarteng argued that even if Atta Akyea had been absent, it would not justify questioning his loyalty to the party.

Assuming, without admitting, that he was not there, does that also mean his loyalty to the party is in doubt?” he asked.

Kwarteng concluded by urging the public and political observers to avoid overinterpreting routine absences, emphasizing that there is no rift within the party and no plan by Kennedy Agyapong to form a new political organization.
