Akatsi, Volta Region | July 8, 2026

The Ghana Police Service has launched investigations into the sudden death of a 44-year-old headteacher, Selorm Kwaku Tettey, popularly known as “TK,” whose lifeless body was discovered in a guest house in Akatsi in the Volta Region.

Mr. Tettey, who served as the headteacher of Glikpome Basic School in the Akatsi South Municipality, was found dead in a room at the Joli Bebe Guest House at approximately 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2026.

According to reports, a staff member of the guest house made the discovery while entering the room to carry out routine housekeeping duties. The worker immediately raised an alarm, prompting local authorities to intervene.

Sources indicate that before the discovery, Mr. Tettey’s wife had made several unsuccessful attempts to reach him by telephone. Concerned about his whereabouts, she reported the matter to the Akatsi South Municipal Directorate of Education.

She later accompanied the Municipal Director of Education, Karim Ayaana Umar, to the Akatsi Municipal Police Command to lodge an official complaint regarding his disappearance.

While they were at the police station, officers received information that an unidentified man had been found dead in a room at the Joli Bebe Guest House. Police officers immediately proceeded to the scene, where the deceased was identified as Mr. Tettey.

Confirming the incident, the Akatsi South Municipal Director of Education, Mr. Karim Ayaana Umar, expressed sadness over the loss but declined to comment extensively, stating that official investigations were still underway and that both the Ghana Police Service and the deceased’s family were yet to issue formal statements.

The Assembly Member for the area, Wonder Gatepe, disclosed that management of the guest house informed him shortly after the body was discovered.

According to him, he rushed to the scene and found Mr. Tettey lying motionless on the bed before personnel from the Akatsi Municipal Police Command arrived to commence investigations.

Mr. Gatepe revealed that investigators found a bag containing educational materials, a mobile phone, canned malt drinks, and other personal belongings in the room.

He further noted that there were no visible signs of physical assault or struggle on the deceased’s body.

Meanwhile, preliminary findings from the ongoing investigation do not support rumours circulating on social media alleging that Mr. Tettey was in the company of a student before his death.

Information available to investigators suggests that the deceased was seen with an adult woman believed to be in her late 30s. However, police say they are still working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident, including identifying all persons connected to the case.

The Akatsi Municipal Police Command has confirmed that investigations remain ongoing, and no arrests have been made.

The tragic death has sent shockwaves through the education fraternity in the Akatsi South Municipality and beyond.

Colleagues, former students, and friends have described Mr. Tettey as a dedicated, intelligent, hardworking, and committed educationist whose contribution to education and the development of young people will be greatly missed.

His body has been deposited at the St. Paul’s Hospital Morgue in Akatsi, where it will undergo preservation and an autopsy as part of ongoing police investigations.

The Ghana Police Service has appealed to the public to refrain from spreading unverified information while investigations continue.
