PRESIDENT MAHAMA TO VISIT FUVEME

Fuveme, Volta Region –

President John Dramani Mahama is expected to visit the Fuveme community on Wednesday, 29th April 2026, following growing concerns over the worsening coastal erosion and looming environmental disaster threatening the area.

The planned visit comes in the wake of a high-level emergency meeting involving chiefs of Anlo Dukor and other key stakeholders, who gathered to deliberate on the urgent dangers facing Fuveme and nearby communities. The engagement formed part of intensified efforts to draw national attention to the crisis and seek immediate intervention.

As part of preliminary assessments, traditional authorities and stakeholders also toured the affected communities on 20th April 2026 to evaluate the scale of destruction and the risks confronting residents whose homes, livelihoods, and safety remain under increasing threat.

President Mahama’s upcoming inspection is expected to provide firsthand insight into the severity of the erosion situation and help shape swift government action toward finding practical and lasting solutions.

The Fuveme coastline has in recent years experienced persistent tidal waves and severe land loss, placing enormous pressure on residents and raising fears of displacement if urgent protective measures are not implemented.

Ahead of the President’s visit, residents from Fuveme and neighboring communities including Atiteti and Agorkedzi have embarked on an extensive communal clean-up exercise to prepare the area. The exercise demonstrates both the unity of the people and their determination to use the occasion to spotlight the difficulties they continue to endure.

Community leaders say the visit offers a critical opportunity for the government to witness the reality on the ground and respond decisively to prevent further destruction.
Residents remain hopeful that the President’s presence will attract the needed national attention and accelerate intervention projects capable of restoring safety, protecting livelihoods, and securing the future of communities along the vulnerable coastal belt.
