ECG urges calm amid outages, says it’s too early for load-shedding timetable

The Electricity Company of Ghana has assured the public that it is premature to introduce a load-shedding timetable despite ongoing power fluctuations affecting parts of the country.

The reassurance comes as households and businesses raise concerns over intermittent electricity supply, linked to repair works following a fire at the Ghana Grid Company Limited Akosombo substation.

According to officials, engineers are actively working to restore the transmission network, with some areas already experiencing improved power supply as stabilization efforts continue nationwide.

Speaking on ChannelOne TV on Sunday, April 26, 2026, ECG’s General Manager for External Communications, Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku, said the situation remains under control.

Dr Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku

The current situation at the Akosombo GRIDCo substation is a work in progress. A lot of work has gone into it. As I speak, there is a resolution. Some parts of the country are back on full supply, pending other lines that will be restored,” he explained.

Dr Ayiku maintained that it is too early to begin discussions about a load-shedding schedule, expressing confidence in ongoing repair efforts.

Don’t you think it is too early to call for a load-shedding timetable? The engineers have assured us that very soon we will get back on supply,” he stated.

He appealed to Ghanaians to remain calm and patient as engineers work to fully restore stable electricity supply.

I would once again urge the general public and our cherished customers to remain calm. Be assured that the situation is under control. If, after some time, there is no hope, then we can look at a timetable, but as we speak, there is hope in sight,” he added.

The company says it remains optimistic that full stability will be restored in the coming days as repair works progress.
