Police Crackdown on Akatsi Robbery Network Leads to Arrest of Three Suspects, Weapons Seized

Akatsi, Volta Region – April 26, 2026 —

A major police intelligence-led operation aimed at dismantling a robbery network operating in Akatsi and surrounding communities has led to the arrest of three suspects and the seizure of a significant cache of weapons and ammunition.

The operation was carried out by the Special Operations Assistant (SOA) team to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) following a series of reported robbery incidents that had created fear and insecurity within Akatsi and its environs in recent weeks.

According to security sources, the targeted intervention forms part of broader efforts by the Ghana Police Service to clamp down on violent crime and restore confidence among residents and businesses in the area.

Intelligence-Led Operation

On April 21, 2026, the SOA team, acting on intelligence, moved into Gavekope, where they arrested the first suspect, identified as Enoch Adoglo.

Subsequent intelligence gathered during the operation led officers to the outskirts of Gavekope, where they arrested a second suspect, Cephas Aniwaa, a blacksmith believed to be involved in the illegal manufacture and supply of weapons to robbery suspects operating in the area.

A third suspect, David Adzinu, was also apprehended during the continued security sweep.

Police investigators believe the arrests represent a major breakthrough in ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal cells suspected to be behind several robbery attacks in Akatsi and neighboring communities.

Weapons and Ammunition Retrieved

A thorough search conducted on the suspects and related locations resulted in the retrieval of a substantial quantity of weapons, ammunition, and other items believed to have been used in criminal operations.

Items recovered by the police included:

Seven (7) single-barrel rifles

Five (5) locally manufactured pistols

One (1) revolver

Sixty-four (64) rounds of ACP ammunition

Eleven (11) rounds of AK-47 ammunition

Four (4) rounds of 7.62 x 51 ammunition

Four (4) live BB cartridges

Eighteen (18) spent BB cartridges

Three (3) mobile phones

Weapon winding tools

Security analysts say the volume of weapons seized suggests the group may have been operating an organized criminal network with access to arms supply channels.

Key Suspects Still on the Run

Further investigations have reportedly identified Mensah Kedzi as a key suspect linked to multiple robbery incidents in the Akatsi area, including a robbery attack that occurred on April 3, 2026.

Police sources indicate that Mensah Kedzi is currently on the run together with other wanted accomplices, including suspects identified as Akakpo, said to be an ex-convict, and Ageh.

Authorities have intensified surveillance and manhunt operations to track down all remaining members of the suspected robbery syndicate.

Police Assure Public of Safety

The latest breakthrough has been welcomed by residents and business owners in Akatsi, many of whom had expressed concern over recent criminal activities in the municipality.

The Ghana Police Service has assured the public that all persons arrested will be processed through the legal system and made to face the full rigours of the law.

Residents have also been encouraged to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information that could aid crime prevention and arrest operations.

Growing Confidence in Security Response

The successful operation is expected to boost public confidence in ongoing police efforts to combat armed robbery and related crimes across the Volta Region.

Community members are hopeful that with sustained intelligence operations, stronger collaboration between citizens and law enforcement, and swift prosecution of offenders, peace and security will be fully restored in Akatsi and its surrounding communities.
