Energy Minister engages ECG, NEDCo to tackle outages and boost power reliability

Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has held high-level talks with key stakeholders in Ghana’s power sector to address challenges in electricity distribution and improve service delivery.

The meeting brought together officials from the Electricity Company of Ghana and the Northern Electricity Distribution Company, along with other industry players, to assess ongoing efforts to resolve isolated power outages across the country.

Discussions centered on persistent operational issues within the distribution chain, particularly transformer overloads and ageing infrastructure, which continue to affect reliable power supply.

According to the minister, these challenges stem largely from years of underinvestment, compounded by rising electricity demand driven by rapid urbanization and expanding economic activity.

Jinapor noted that the government, under President John Dramani Mahama, is rolling out major investments to modernize and expand power infrastructure.

The initiative aims to strengthen system capacity and enhance overall reliability in electricity delivery nationwide.

The minister also directed ECG and NEDCo to step up their response to outages, emphasizing the need for swift, coordinated action and improved communication with consumers.

“Ghanaians deserve timely service and clear communication, and we expect nothing less,” he stressed.

He assured the public that efforts are underway to resolve remaining outage challenges and restore stable electricity supply to affected areas as quickly as possible.
