Hohoe MP counters Ras Mubarak’s criticism of Asiedu Nketiah’s “Thank You Tour”

The Member of Parliament for Hohoe, Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo, has defended the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, following criticisms from former Kumbungu MP, Ras Mubarak, over his ongoing nationwide “Thank You Tour.”

Mr. Mubarak had argued that the Chairman’s three-day tour of the Eastern Region, which covers 16 constituencies from September 17 to 19, 2025, sets a “dangerous precedent.” He maintained that appreciation tours are typically undertaken by presidential or parliamentary candidates, not party chairmen.

In a social media post, the former MP warned that the exercise could become an “unnecessary distraction” for the NDC government and might be interpreted as a sign of presidential ambitions on the part of Mr. Nketiah.

But responding on September 17, Hohoe MP Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo dismissed the concerns, stressing that the NDC has internal mechanisms to resolve grievances if there are genuine issues.

“Dear Comrade Ras Mubarak, I come in peace. If indeed the Chairman is acting wrongly, why not petition the General Secretary to suspend him? You and I know that the NDC is a democratic party, unless you think otherwise,” he said.

Mr. Tsekpo questioned why there had been no objections when other national executives, such as Joseph Yamin and Mustapha Gbande, recently undertook regional tours to thank party executives.

“What is wrong if the National Chairman and his team return to the same people they went to for votes, simply to express gratitude?” he added.

The Hohoe legislator further urged party members to avoid unnecessary divisions and support both President John Dramani Mahama and the party leadership in their respective roles.

“The party must be allowed to function while government delivers,” he concluded.
