Alhaji Said Sinare, Ghana’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia, has expressed appreciation to the Ghanaian government and Saudi authorities following the return of a number of Ghanaian women who had been held in detention in Saudi Arabia.
Sharing his reaction in a Facebook post on May 14, 2026, the ambassador described the women’s return home as a deeply emotional moment, saying he was touched after receiving a video message from them while they were travelling back to Ghana.
According to him, the successful repatriation reflected the government’s commitment to protecting the welfare and dignity of Ghanaians abroad.
Sinare commended John Dramani Mahama, Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, officials of the Ghana Embassy in Saudi Arabia, and Saudi authorities for their collaboration throughout the process.
He noted that the intervention went beyond diplomacy and demonstrated compassion and humanity toward vulnerable citizens facing difficult circumstances outside the country.
The ambassador also praised the women for remaining resilient during their detention and welcomed them back home as they begin a new chapter in their lives.
He further stressed that under President Mahama’s leadership, efforts would continue to ensure that Ghanaians living abroad do not feel neglected regardless of their situation.
In April 2026, Sinare disclosed that diplomatic engagements with Saudi authorities had paved the way for the deportation of several Ghanaian women being held over various offences.
He indicated at the time that the breakthrough followed meetings with Saudi officials and visits to the detainees as part of ongoing efforts to safeguard the interests of Ghanaians in the Middle East.
